Junior Umpire Program
The FNLL/FALL Junior Umpire Program provides young officials with the knowledge, tools, and experience to confidently support live games throughout the season.
Program Goals
- Develop a strong grasp of game rules
- Cultivate character traits
- Encourage youth participation
Duties
Junior umpires officiate FNLL and FALL AA, AAA, Majors, and Juniors games. Specific training is mandatory. Placement is determined through training and practice games.
Responsibilities
- Maintain control of teams, coaches, and fans
- Act professionally at all times
- Clearly communicate calls
- Attend required clinics and field mechanics sessions
- Wear appropriate uniform and gear
- Maintain a positive attitude on and off the field
- Follow the league’s Code of Conduct
Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum age: 13 (or 12 with UIC approval)
- Attend FNLL and FALL rules and mechanics clinics
- Have a valid email and cell phone number
- May not umpire games involving family members
- Divisions are assigned by UICs
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before game time
- Repeated no-shows or unexcused absences may lead to removal from the program
Training
All Junior Umpires must attend one annual FNLL/FALL training clinic unless otherwise excused by the UIC.

Scheduling
- UICs manage scheduling and assign eligible divisions
- Junior umpires can select their own shifts online
- Expectations for number of games will be communicated each season
Compensation
- AA: $40 (plate)
- AAA: $60 (plate) / $40 (bases)
- Majors: $70 (plate) / $45 (bases)
- Juniors: $70 (plate)
Uniform Requirements
- Black umpire shirt and hat
- Black belt and socks
- Black shoes (solid color sneakers OK)
